My name is Ely and I'm a Holistic Nutritionist at Easy Peas. I'm also the mother of an energetic and happy 16 month old boy and the wife of an amazing husband. I live & run my business in Hamilton. I'm so excited to be sharing this blog. I look forward to discussing natural health, easy and delicious recipes and looking at products that enhance our health.
The world of nutrition and natural health is so vast and complicated that it's hard to make heads or tails out of what is true and what is just the latest fad. Trying to adhere to the latest diet seems to be expensive and generally pointless. It's not a strange berry found only in the tropical forests after the spring rainfall or whatever other illusive conditions are met that's going to solve all our health problems. Wouldn't it be great if that one little elusive berry was really the solution to all your weight loss goals? Believe me, I'd eat that berry by the bushel if it meant I could eat poutines all day long. What happens after the fad is over and we don't see any results? We revert back to our old habits because it's familiar and easy. The best diet is simple, easy and logical. And it's not a diet! It's just your everyday life. Real food, whole foods. Simple changes. Changes that are easy to incorporate into your everyday life. And no, it's not about not having any "fun" foods, it's just about learning to balance it all.
When I first started studying natural nutrition, I was instantly drawn to Holistic Health. The idea that a person's spiritual, social & emotional health impact their physical health rang true. How many times had I witnessed friends and family suffering from deteriorating health due to stress or following a loss? It seemed impossible that a symptom would appear out of thin air, without cause and warning and be eradicated permanently with a prescription. Yes the symptom would disappear, but what happened to the root cause? Time and time again I witnessed the same disease rearing its ugly head in a different way and once again covered up by another prescription. It would just find a different outlet and grow stronger until that person was really ill.
I believe that the body is strong enough to fight disease and to live optimally if only we allow it. If we feed our bodies what it needs in order to be strong and to rebuild itself. If we take away the heavy burden of processed food and chemicals, perhaps our body would have more time to heal itself rather then spend all its time detoxing.
Our bodies are living in a constant state of hangover, weeding through thousands of intruders on an hourly basis just to be able to survive. We feel lethargic, achy, depressed. We learn to live with allergies and headaches and brush them off as daily inconveniences.
Body cells die and regenerate at different rates (other then certain cells such as brain cells that live forever and once dead do not regenerate). That said, every 7 years your body has regenerated most of its cells. The quality of these new cells is highly dependent on our input. Do we eat healthy foods? Do we provide our bodies with the nutrients it needs in order to generate healthy cells? Do we exercise? Do we allow fresh air and sunshine to permeate our skin and body?
Everyday you have a chance to recreate yourself, literally! How will you create your new body?
